Framed Inline Shower Screen, Matt Black – Cottesloe

There’s a version of this bathroom that gets a frameless screen. Clean, minimal, glass edge to glass edge. But look at what’s actually happening in this room – a matt black vanity, matt black tapware, matt black shower fittings, and a pebble mosaic feature strip running floor to ceiling at the back wall. This bathroom has committed to a direction. A frameless screen would have underserved it.
The fully framed screen does something different here. The matt black frame runs the full perimeter of every panel – top, bottom, and both sides, and in doing so it draws a deliberate border around the enclosure. The frame becomes part of the palette. It reinforces the colour decision rather than stepping aside from it, and the result is a bathroom that reads as resolved from every angle.

The Framed Screen Reconsidered
The fully framed shower screen has a reputation as the practical choice – reliable, cost-effective, and a sensible option for investment properties and rentals. All of that is true. But practical and beautiful aren’t mutually exclusive, and this installation is a good reminder of that.
When the bathroom has a strong colour theme, a framed screen amplifies it. The full-perimeter frame gives the finish maximum presence – more surface area, more visual weight, more commitment to the palette than a semi-frameless or frameless option would deliver. For a bathroom built around matt black, a fully framed screen in the same finish isn’t a compromise. It’s the right call.
Matt black as a design anchor
Matt black works as a finish because it holds its ground without demanding attention. It doesn’t reflect light, it doesn’t shift tone under different lighting conditions, and it carries consistently across fittings from different manufacturers, a genuinely useful property when a full bathroom renovation pulls tapware, cabinetry hardware, and a shower screen from separate suppliers. When everything arrives in matt black, the room coheres.
The pivot door swings outward and closes on a magnetic stile against the fixed panel. Water containment across a fully framed screen is excellent, the frame seals the full perimeter and the magnetic stile holds the door firmly closed.
